Helen Tintes-Schuermann

American contralto HelenTintes-Schuermann is a singer-actress with broad experience in opera, oratorio, concert and musical theater. She appears frequently in concert and recital with a focus on Spanish/Latin American music, German repertoire and works by 21st century composers. Favorite opera roles include Carmen, Azucena (Il Trovatore), the Zia Principessa (Suor Angelica), Suzuki (Madame Butterfly) and The Medium. Tintes-Schuermann’s European career highlights include performances with the Teatro del Gran Liceu (Barcelona), the Alte Oper (Frankfurt), Festival du Printemps (Monte Carlo), Staatstheater Kassel (Germany) and Theater a.d. Wien/Raimund Theater (Vienna).  In the USA she performs with numerous symphonies, arts series and opera companies, including the Augusta Symphony, USC Symphony, Charlotte Symphony, St. Petersburg Opera, Naples Bach Society and Light Opera Works (Chicago).

Recent Austrian appearances include oratorio (Haydn, Mozart) at St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Schloss Porcia in Carinthia and concerts at the Schoenberg Center and Festsaal Wieden.  She performs with Clasicos de Verano and at the Escuela Superior de Canto in Madrid and continues to perform and teach in Austria, Spain, Finland and the USA. Ongoing projects include concerts with the new IHMCenter (International Hispanic Music Center) in Vienna and Spain.

Tintes has recorded for radio and television and released a cd entitled “Para Entonces” which features works by Spanish and American composers. The Artist-Teacher received the Doctor of Music from Northwestern University and the Lied Diplom from the Hochschule “Mozarteum” in Salzburg.  She is currently professor of voice at the Konservatorium Wien Private University in Vienna, Austria. Her students are currently performing at the Volksoper in Vienna, at Festivals throughout Austria and Europe in opera, operetta and musical theater.
